ingredients to make a banana peanut butter jelly
  • Bread: use what you love, but I love a 100% whole grain or whole wheat bread.
  • Banana: you need slices from half a banana
  • Peanut Butter: while creamy PB is our go to, crunchy will also work!
  • Jelly: jam, jelly, whatever flavor – it’s up to you! I use a homemade or reduced sugar strawberry jam.
  • Cinnamon Sugar Crust: all you need is cinnamon sugar and some nonstick spray or melted butter or oil.

Step-by-Step Directions

For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post!

  3. Use an uncrustable maker to cut and crimp the air fryer pbj sandwich together, to seal the sides.
  4. Spray both sandwich sides with nonstick spray and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  5. Air fry at 400°F for 4-5 minutes.

Expert Tips

  • When using the uncrustable sandwich maker, make sure you’re using a big enough slice of bread to use the cutter appropriately!
  • No uncrustable sandwich maker? Feel free to use a knife to cut the sides off if you prefer, and you can use the tines of a fork to crimp together the sandwich’s edges.
  • I do not recommend making this in advance or storing it for later. It’s 100% best served warm and fresh.

Substitutions & Variations

  • This air fryer PBJ is easily gluten-free — just sub your favorite gluten-free bread!
  • Experiment with different jam flavors! Strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, grape, apricot…the world’s your oyster!
  • If you’re looking for a more nutrient-dense sandwich, opt for a 100% whole grain or whole wheat bread.
  • For lower sugar options, use a reduced sugar jam, or a “healthier” jam like chia jam.
  • This same sandwich technique can work with any kind of nut butter, jam, or even other fruits! Peach and pear slices are divine!
