Ingredient Notes & Substitutions:
For a full ingredient list with quantities, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Greek Yogurt: I use a no sugar added, fat free, vanilla Greek yogurt. You can use higher fat Greek yogurts if that’s your preference. If using plain or unsweetened, you may want to add a little vanilla extract and sweetener of choice.
- Protein Powder: My favorite protein powders for this chocolate yogurt bark are Clean Simple Eats Brownie Batter Protein and Optimum Nutrition’s Double Rich Chocolate Protein. You can use whatever protein powder you have/ prefer.
- Cocoa Powder: Natural unsweetened cocoa powder will work, but I generally use Dutch-processed cocoa powder in this recipe, as it’s slightly less bitter and has a bit deeper of a chocolate flavor.
- Almond Butter: Because we’re using a fat free yogurt, adding almond butter adds a little fat and creaminess to prevent the yogurt bark from getting too icy. You can sub your favorite nut/ seed butter of choice.
- Toppings: The world’s your oyster here! It’s pictured here with almond slices and mini chocolate chips, but you can top with whatever you want (see the toppings section below if you need ideas).
How to Make Chocolate Yogurt Bark:
For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and stir to combine. If you’re having a hard time incorporating the nut butter or protein powder, you may find using a small whisk helpful.
Spread the yogurt mixture out on a small, parchment paper lined pan. Top with your desired toppings.
Free for 3-4 hours, or until solid. Break the bark apart into smaller pieces, then store in the freezer in an airtight container.
Tips and Variations
- Swap almond butter for peanut butter for the classic chocolate peanut butter combination.
- Add strawberries on top and a chocolate drizzle for a chocolate covered strawberry version.
- Skip the chocolate entirely and omit the cocoa powder and use a vanilla or other flavored protein powder.
- Go nut-free by using sunflower seed butter and nut-free toppings.
Meal Prep: Storing
Frozen yogurt bark is the perfect meal prep treat! It takes just a few minutes of prep time, then can be kept in the freezer.
Once frozen and broken apart, store yogurt bark pieces in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month.
Yogurt Bark Toppings:
One of the fun things about yogurt bark is the endless options you have for toppings! Try some of my favorites:
- Nuts and seeds, like sliced almonds, crushed peanuts, hemp hearts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.
- A drizzle of nut or seed butter
- Mini chocolate chips
- White chocolate chips or shavings
- Melted chocolate mixed with a little coconut oil and drizzled over the bark.
- Fresh fruit, like strawberry slices, banana slices, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and more.
- Freeze-dried fruit
- Granola
