Apple Cider Vinaigrette

This apple cider vinaigrette is a delicious, simple dressing that elevates any salad – fall salads, especially! All you need is five ingredients and a mason jar!

This apple cider vinaigrette is a simple, classic dressing that pairs deliciously with so many different salads. It’s flavorful without overpowering the flavors of your salad.

It also doesn’t get much simpler when it comes to homemade salad dressings. You can use a bowl and a whisk, but my personal favorite way to make it? Toss all the ingredients in a jar, seal it up, shake it up, and boom – an apple cider vinegar dressing that’s already in an airtight container to keep in your fridge, whenever a need arises!

So let’s make it!

Ingredients

For a full ingredient list with quantities, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

ingredients to make a simple apple cider vinaigrette
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – using a cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil in an unheated application, like a salad dressing, maximizes both its flavor and its heart-healthy health benefits.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – an acid that’s relatively mild in flavor, compared to some other vinegars, but delicious when combined with these other few ingredients.
  • Dijon mustard – helps emulsify the dressing and adds flavor.
  • Honey – balances the vinaigrette with a little sweetness. Feel free to sub for maple or another sweetener of your choice!
  • Garlic – adds another layer of flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper – a pinch of each balances out the flavors. Season to taste!

Homemade salad dressings don’t get easier! Combine all ingredients in a small bowl, whisk, and that’s it!

Alternatively, you can go with the really low maintenance method I tend to default to, which is adding everything to a small mason jar, sealing and shaking it mix it up, then storing it in the fridge in the same jar in between uses.

Homemade Salad Dressing Tips & Variations”

  • Adjust seasoning to your personal taste. If you like it more or less sweet, adjust the amount of honey accordingly. Measure things like garlic, pepper, and other seasonings with your heart.
  • Swap the sweetener for a sugar-free option, like allulose, or vegan option, like maple syrup.
  • Use stoneground or yellow mustard instead of Dijon for more mellow flavor.
  • Add some fresh herbs. I like to add herbs directly to some salads, but if your salad is a little basic, elevate this apple cider vinegar dressing even more by adding some fresh chopped thyme, rosemary, or parsley.

Salad Dressing Storage

Store salad dressing in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks. Whisk it or give it a good shake to re-emulsify prior to serving every time.
