Easy Air Fryer Salmon (<10 Minutes!)

This Easy Air Fryer Salmon is absolute perfection with crisp, seared edges, and tender inside. And it doesn’t get easier! All you need is an air fryer, three ingredients, and ten minutes (or less) and the main part of a healthy dinner is ready to go!

It is high time that my easy air fryer salmon recipe makes it on to my website! This recipe has made salmon my favorite easy, healthy dinner – hands down!

  • You only need 3 ingredients– salmon, a little oil, and seasoning (I’ll share my favorites below!).

  • Kid-friendly – air fryer salmon has made one of kids obsessed with salmon!
  • Healthy – salmon is a great source of heart healthy omega-3 essential fatty acids, great for brain health!
  • High protein – on top of the healthy fats, salmon is also a nutrient-dense, protein-rich food.

  • Salmon – of course! Use whatever kind of salmon you have, prefer, or is in your budget. Fresh, frozen, wild-caught, Alaskan – it all works!
  • Oil – you really don’t need a lot, especially because salmon is a fatty fish itself, but I find even just a gentle spray of olive or avocado oil on top helps the seasoning adhere better and results in a delicious “seared” crust.
  • Seasoning – you can go as simple or as complex as you’d like here. When cooking for my kids, I often just do salt and pepper and serve with a little lemon on the side. But my current favorite is what’s pictured above – Tajin seasoning! The chili lime flavor pairs perfectly with salmon!

It really is very simple! Season the top of your salmon with a little oil and Tajin, or any other seasoning you prefer. Place your salmon in the air fryer, skin side down, if it has skin.

Air fry for 7-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of your salmon fillets. The salmon is done when it has turned more opaque and the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit. (A meat thermometer is a must in every kitchen, in my opinion! This is the meat thermometer I have had for years.)

How to Easily Remove Salmon Skin

If your salmon comes with skin on, yes you can eat it! But if you’re not a fan, I recommend cooking the salmon with the skin on. Then, after cooking/ air frying, the skin very easily pulls off.

Flavor Variations

  • Salt + Pepper: keep it simple! Not going to lie, this is my kids’ favorite. It also makes a great basic fish for adding different sauces to.
  • Barbecue: salt, pepper, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder — top with barbecue sauce the last 1-2 minutes!
  • Lemon: add lemon zest to the seasoning before air frying, then top with lemon juice before eating.
  • Chili Lime: I use Tajin seasoning to keep it nice and easy!
  • Other Seasoning Blends: Herbes de Provence, Italian seasoning, Adobo seasoning…there are so many options out there, and all can be delicious ways to flavor your salmon.

Salmon Meal Prep

Can you meal prep salmon? Yes! Air fryer salmon will last up to three days in the fridge. You can store it as part of a meal (I like using these three compartment glass containers) or on top of a salad (using these containers).

How to Serve

As a dietitian, I recommend serving this salmon as part of a balanced meal. Consider adding foods you enjoy that are nutrient-dense with complex carbohydrates, vegetables, etc.

One of my go-to easy dinners is this air fryer salmon on top of a salad kit. It can really be that simple! Some of my other favorite salads to pair it with include my apple manchego salad, edamame cucumber salad, butternut beetroot salad, Mediterranean cucumber salad, or mango cucumber salad.

You can serve with a baked potato, mashed potatoes (love my greek yogurt mashed potatoes!), sweet potatoes, or a higher fiber pasta with a delicious sauce.

And of course as a dietitian, I’m a huge fan of adding veggies! It can be as simple as a salad kit or frozen veggies, or something like my miso roasted vegetables or prosciutto green beans.

Ingredients

  • 4 6 ounce salmon fillets
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons Tajin seasoning or salt, pepper, or other seasoning blend

Instructions

  • Lightly drizzle each salmon fillet with olive, or use an oil sprayer to light spray each fillet. Season each fillet with Tajin or any other seasonings you prefer.

  • Place salmon fillets skin-side down in the air fryer basket and air fry at 400°F for 7-9 minutes.

  • Total cooking time can vary based on individual air fryer and salmon thickness. To check for doneness, open the air fryer basket and use a meat thermometer to check that the fish internal temperature has reached 145°F. The salmon should have a crisped exterior, look opaque, and gently flake with a fork. Return to air fryer to continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes, if necessary.
