Air Fryer Miso Salmon
This Air Fryer Miso Salmon is a delicious, simple, healthy air fryer recipe with just six ingredients. Perfect for a busy weeknight dinner!
You know a new salmon recipe is good when even your five year old proclaims it delicious! Which is just the case with this air fryer miso salmon recipe.
As a dietitian, salmon is one of my favorite fish to cook with. When cooked well, it’s always so moist and tender, thanks to the heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids its rich in!
And as a busy mom, I love how I only need six ingredients to make this flavorful main dish. Plus it can be marinade ahead of time, making this dinner as simple as placing in the air fryer.
So let’s make it!
Ingredients
For a full ingredient list with quantities, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Salmon: Rich in protein and heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids, this fish is nourishing, delicious, and cooks quickly!
- Miso: use whatever miso you have or prefer, but I generally use a white miso paste here.
- Rice Vinegar: adds a neutral acidity the pairs well with the miso.
- Brown Sugar: creates a little sweetness and depth of flavor. Feel free to use honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, or any non-nutritive sweetener you prefer.
- Green Onion: honestly, you can skip this if it’s not your thing or you forgot it at the store, but it adds a little flavor to the marinade and a pop of color as a flavorful garnish!
- Sesame Seeds: the nutty flavor pairs great with the miso and other ingredients here. Toast your sesame seeds for max flavor!
How to Make Miso Salmon in the Air Fryer
For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Whisk the marinade ingredients together in a small bowl, then add your salmon fillets. Marinate for at least 20 minutes.
- Place the salmon fillets in the air fryer and air fry at 400 for 7-10 minutes (cooking time will vary on the size and thickness of your fillets).
- When done, remove salmon skin if you prefer, garnish, and serve!
Expert Tips
- Toast sesame seeds for max flavor.
- Salmon skin can be left on while air frying. You can of course buy it skinless or remove the skin beforehand, but I find the skin removes very easily after cooking.
- Salmon is done when it’s opaque, less pink, and the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
Substitutions & Variations
- Gluten-Free: all the ingredients are naturally gluten-free, so long as your miso doesn’t contain any gluten-containing grains in it.
- Dairy-Free: all ingredients are naturally dairy-free.
- Sugar-Free: use your favorite non-nutritive sweetener. Monk fruit works, but I personally prefer allulose or Truvia’s Sweet Complete Brown (affiliate links).
- Spicy: add crushed red pepper flakes or sriracha to the marinade if you like a little heat!
Can I Make Miso Salmon in the Oven?
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can still make this miso salmon! Marinade the salmon as instructed in the recipe. Then place the salmon fillets in a baking dish or on a sheet pan and bake in a preheated oven at 400 for 10-15 minutes, or until salmon is opaque and cooked through.
Meal Prep, Storing, and Reheating
Miso salmon is excellent for meal prep. Simply prepare the recipe as instructed, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To reheat, microwave for 60-90 seconds until warmed through.
