Sliders are always such a family-favorite, easy meal, and these air fryer ham and cheese sliders are no exception.

Sweet Hawaiian rolls are layered with a creamy, slightly zippy light dijon mayo, salty black forest ham, creamy Swiss cheese, and then are topped with melted butter and everything but the bagel seasoning for a delicious bite.

We love pairing these air fryer sliders with a salad or even some frozen veggies for a busy weeknight, or enjoying them while watching some football.

ingredients to make air fryer ham and cheese sliders
  • Hawaiian Rolls: sweet Hawaiian rolls taste so good with the salty ham and creamy swiss!
  • Ham: you can use any type of ham you prefer (even leftover ham from a Sunday or holiday dinner!). If using deli ham, I personally prefer the taste of a less sweet/ more savory ham, like black forest ham. I also recommend choosing a deli ham without added nitrates or nitrites, when possible.
  • Cheese: Swiss melts well and pairs great with ham, but you can use any melty cheese you have and enjoy.
  • Mayo: I use light mayo, but you can use any kind of mayo you like – even a 50/50 mayo/ Greek yogurt split.
  • Mustard: Dijon mustard adds a great flavor when mixed with the mayo for a creamy layer on these sliders.
  • Everything but the Bagel Seasoning: One way I like to simplify easy dinners is with seasoning blends like EBTB seasoning. Instead of carefully measuring out individually different seasonings, you can just use EBTB for a mix of sesame seeds, salt, dried onion, and garlic.
  • Butter: Just a couple tablespoons of butter is melted and mixed with the EBTB seasoning for a delicious topping on the slider buns.

Step-by-Step Directions

For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

steps showing how to make air fryer ham and cheese sliders
  1. Keeping the Hawaiian rolls intact, slice lengthwise (hamburger bun style). Place the bottom buns in the air fryer basket.
  2. Mix the mayo and mustard, then spread on top of the bottom buns.
  3. Layer on your ham, then cheese, then top with the top half of Hawaiian rolls.
  4. Melt the butter and add the everything but the bagel seasoning.
  5. Evenly brush the EBTB butter all over the top of the sliders.
  6. Air fry at 325 for 10-15 minutes, or until the ham is warm, cheese is melty, and buns are browned.
  7. Remove, slice, serve, and enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • Keeping the top an bottoms of the Hawaiian rolls intact can help make them easier to get in and out of the air fryer basket.
  • I don’t recommend using foil in your air fryer, as it blocks the circulating air flow that helps air fryers cook so quickly and crisply. But that said – if you want super soft sliders, wrap them tightly in foil. They won’t crisp or brown, but will still warm through.
  • For smaller air fryers, you may need to break your sliders up into sections of 6 or 4 sliders so they can fit your air fryer basket.
  • Adjust air frying time to your air fryer. Air fryers come in all sorts of sizes (which can affect cooking time). Start on the low end of the time range and add a minute or two at a time until the meat is warm, cheese is melted, and tops are golden.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Use any soft slider roll if you don’t like/ can’t find Hawaiian rolls.
  • Skip the mayo if you don’t like it.
  • For a more mild option, use plain yellow mustard instead of dijon mustard (if your kids are super sensitive to spice, this may be a good tip for you!).
  • Skip the topping if you don’t want it!
  • Try different cheeses – provolone and cheddar are delicious, and pepper jack adds a little more zest!
  • For a little sweet heat, add a drizzle of hot honey over the ham and cheese layer.
  • Gluten-free: Use your favorite soft gluten-free rolls.
  • Different meats: If you find yourself adding air fryer sliders to your meal rotation, swap out different meats, like roast beef and deli turkey or chicken.

How to Prep Ahead

Assemble the sliders with their layers, leaving off the melted butter EBTB topping. When you’re ready to bake, simply melt the butter, add the seasoning mix, brush over the sliders, and air fry!

Storage, Freezing, & Reheating

These ham and cheese sliders are best when they’re fresh, but they can be stored and reheated later.

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: Wrap individual sliders in plastic wrap, then keep in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: Reheat in the microwave on high for 30 seconds at at time until warmed through. If you like to keep them crispy, you can also reheat them in the air fryer again.
