As a dietitian, I’m a big advocate in doing what works for you – and if you’re a fan of green juices, this pineapple green juice is such a delicious option!

It’s got a vibrant pineapple flavor, mellowed out with the cool cucumber and slightly earthy spinach, with a little extra tangy sweet from the green apple and a tiny zip from the ginger.

You can use a juicer, but if you don’t have one but have a blender, that works, too! I’ll teach you how to make green juice in a blender below!

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

For a full ingredient list with quantities, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

ingredients to make pineapple green juice
  • Pineapple – To make a full batch of juice, you’ll want a whole pineapple! Be sure to cut off the stem, peel, and core the pineapple, please!
  • Green Apple – Using one large green apple adds a little more sweetness, nutrients, and a subtle tang. You can use other apples, but truly granny smith reign supreme here with balancing the flavor and not making the juice overly sweet.
  • Cucumber – Use a whole English cucumber, peel on. You can substitute any type of cucumber you have available. Just be sure to wash it well before use, since you’re leaving the peel on.
  • Baby Spinach – I use baby spinach, but you can use regular spinach or other leafy greens, too, like romaine or kale.
  • Ginger – You can skip the fresh ginger if it’s not your thing, but it adds a delightful little kick and really brings a little more balance into the vibrant flavor of this juice. And if you like a little more kick? Add more!
  • Water – this isn’t necessary if you’re using a juicer (although omitting will result in a lower net yield), but adding a little filtered water when making juice in a blender really helps everything come together perfectly.

Making Green Juice in a Blender

For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Start by adding all ingredients to your blender. For most sized blenders, you’ll find this easiest to do by dividing everything evenly into two separate batches.

Blend on high for 1-2 minutes, or until everything is as smooth as possible.

Place a fine mesh strainer, and cheesecloth or nut milk bag into a large bowl, then carefully pour juice into the strainer or cloth bag. Let the juice strain through, using a spoon to help press against the inside edges of the metal strainer, or using your clean hands to wring the cheesecloth bag to get all the juice out.

Once done, pour yourself a glass or store in glass juice bottles or other containers for fresh juice to keep refrigerated!

Tips and Variations

  • Vary your greens by using romaine lettuce, spinach, kale, or other leafy greens of choice.
  • Are you a celery juice fan? Add a couple stalks of celery to this juice!
  • Add some herbs – fresh herbs like fresh mint and basil are delicious here. Parsley, too, although it definitely adds more earthiness!
  • Double up your ginger for an extra kick!
  • Add fresh turmeric for additional anti-inflammatory benefits, just be sure to add a pinch of black pepper to help activate it!

How to Store Fresh Juice

Fresh juice is best kept in the refrigerator in airtight containers. I like to use these cute little 8 ounce glass juice storage bottles, but whatever you use, just make sure they’re airtight, to reduce oxidation.

Fresh juice can last 2-4 days in the refrigerator, depending on what fruits and vegetables are involved.

You can also freeze fresh juice. I personally like to freeze in an ice cube tray, then transfer the juice cubes to an airtight container and keep in the freezer. These juice cubes can then be added to water teas to infuse flavor, or can be blended into smoothies.

You can also freeze larger portions for drinking, just let them thaw in the fridge overnight. Juice can stay frozen for up to a year.

Is Juicing Healthy?

Healthy is subjective, but as a registered dietitian I’m a big believer in balance and moderation. All things can fit in a nutrient dense, balanced diet that works for you – and that can include green juice!

Fresh juices like this pineapple green juice can be a great source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and more.

But it’s worth noting that the process of juicing strains the pulp, removing all the fiber. That doesn’t mean juice is “bad,” it just means you want to focus on consuming adequate fiber elsewhere in your daily diet. (Generally speaking, unless you medically need to follow a low fiber diet.)

To Make in a Juicer:

  • Add all ingredients to your juicer and juice until everything is done. Note that if using a juicer, you don't need to add filtered water like with blending. However, this will result in a smaller total juice yield.
8 ounces baby spinach, 1 pineapple, 1 granny smith apple, 1 English cucumber, 1 inch fresh ginger
  • Since the juice is already strained, pour the juice into a storage container, or individual glass juice jars. Refrigerate and enjoy within 3-4 days!
