This chocolate trail mix is so good and a family favorite snack. Best part? It doesn’t get any easier to throw together!

Nutritionally, it’s loaded with antioxidant-rich foods, like nuts, seeds, and dark chocolate. It’s full of healthy fats, with a little protein and fiber.

You also can have fun with it, swapping in and out any other nuts or seeds or other ingredients you prefer.

And since this healthy sweet snack takes just five minutes to make, go ahead and make another easy, healthy snack while you’re at it! My family loves these three ingredient peanut butter oatmeal balls and chocolate Greek yogurt.

Ingredients & Substitutions

ingredients to make chocolate trail mix
  • Dark Chocolate – I love using dark chocolate chips, larger ones, in this recipe! You can whatever type of chocolate you prefer (including dairy-free options, if that’s a need).
  • Nuts – Use whatever you like! I love almonds and cashews in this trail mix, but peanuts are great, too, as well as other nuts like pistachios and walnuts. Generally I prefer roasted and either unsalted or lightly salted, in order to control the sodium content. But you do what works for you!
  • Seeds – I use pumpkin seeds, but again – use what you like!
  • Dried Fruit – I use dried cherries, but you can use any dried fruit you prefer. Personally, I look for dried fruit that has no or limited added sugar. You also can use freeze-dried fruit for some crunch, too, but note that in more humid climates, the freeze-dried fruit will absorb some moisture from the air and can pretty quickly lose its crunch.

Step-by-Step Directions

Storage

To store this trail mix with chocolate, transfer the dark chocolate trail mix to a 32 ounce mason jar or another airtight container. Seal, then store in a cool pantry for up to one month.

Note that if you choose to use freeze dried fruit, it will lose its crunch pretty quickly in a humid environment, unless stored in individual, airtight containers.
