  • Greek Yogurt – I use zero added sugar Greek yogurt, but definitely recommend vanilla to enhance the minty vanilla shamrock shake vibes!
  • Milk – use any you prefer, but I like to use Fairlife’s ultra-filtered milk for an added boost of protein
  • Protein Powder – you need vanilla protein powder, I like Clean Simple Eats.
  • Peppermint Extract – a little goes a long way! All you need is 8 drops!
  • Spinach – adds some extra nutrients and naturally gives the shake a green color.
  • Frozen Cauliflower – another way to add nutrition and volume without negatively impacting the taste.

How to Make a Shamrock Protein Shake

For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

It couldn’t be easier! Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 1-2 minutes on high until blended smooth. Serve immediately!

Tips and Variations

  • Don’t use too much peppermint extract – I find using peppermint extract as opposed to mint leaves gives more of a shamrock shake vibe, but don’t use too much! Extracts are alcohol based and you’ll be able to pick up on more of those tastes the more you use. 8 drops is perfect!
  • Blend long enough to make sure your shake is completely smooth and no weird textures.
  • If using whey protein, note that it can sometimes create a “fluffy” texture the longer you blend. If this is something you don’t enjoy, blend everything else first until vegetables are smooth, then add the protein powder for a brief blend.
  • Extra ice – for more volume and extra cold, add a cup of ice when blending.
  • Add extras – I love blending frozen zucchini slices for extra veg. Avocado can also add some natural green, creaminess, healthy fats, and fiber, too.
