Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • It’s so easy – no cooking, minimal (if any) chopping. It’s a dip you can easily whip up for any occasion.
  • This dip is creamy, fresh, a little tangy, and full of flavor.
  • Like spicy dips? Htipiti is a dip that tastes amazing both with and without some heat. Leave the recipe as is if you don’t like heat, but if you want some kick, add some cayenne!

What is Htipiti?

Htipiti is a Greek meze dish – a dip made from feta cheese and roasted red bell peppers. It often also includes red wine vinegar or lemon, olive oil, and varying spices, such as chili flakes, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper.

What Does Htipiti Taste Like?

Htipiti tastes like smoky roasted red peppers, combined with the salty, slightly tangy, creaminess of feta cheese. Lemon and olive oil bright and round out the flavors of this dip.

My recipe also elevates flavors with the use of oregano and smoked paprika. These ingredients are both found in traditional Greek recipes, and happen to pair deliciously here. Making this a smoked paprika feta dip adds the best flavor!

Ingredients to make red pepper feta dip (htipiti)

Ingredients

Roasted red pepper feta dip doesn’t have a ton of ingredients and doesn’t require any cooking – which is why you want to choose the best ingredients you can! Make sure you enjoy the flavor of each of these individual ingredients, as you should be able to taste all flavors in this simple dip.

  • Feta Cheese: The star of this dip! Delicious feta cheese is whipped in a food processor to give the best creamy texture.
  • Roasted Red Peppers: The other star of the show. Be sure to drain and pat dry any excess moisture on any jarred red peppers. Alternatively you can slice red bell peppers and sauté them in olive oil until tender.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Full of heart healthy fats and antioxidants, extra virgin olive oil is very authentic to Greece (use a Greek olive oil for true htipiti – Greeks are quite proud of their olive oil!). Be sure to choose a flavorful olive oil, one with bold and fruity flavors.
  • Lemon: Fresh lemon juice adds a lovely brightness to the dip.
  • Garlic: Popular in Greece, garlic adds more flavor.
  • Dried Oregano: Oregano is a very popular seasoning in Greece. Many Greek recipes use fresh herbs, but using dried oregano is convenient and still boosts the flavor in this dip.
  • Smoked Paprika: This is so good if you’ve never tried it – sweet undertones, slightly smoky flavor, it adds so much richness and depth of flavor. And it pairs amazingly well with all the other flavors, too.

Roasted red pepper can also be spicy, so if you want some extra heat, add 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder!

How to Make Roasted Red Pepper Dip, Step-by-Step

This red pepper feta dip is incredibly simple to make.

  1. Start by adding all ingredients (except parsley garnish) to a food processor.
  2. Pulse on high a few pulses, then let blend for 1-2 minutes on high, until dip is smooth and creamy.
  3. Transfer dip to a serving bowl and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Top Troubleshooting Tips:

To prevent a wet, loose dip make sure you dry both the feta and jarred roasted red peppers. If these ingredients came packaged in a brine or other liquid solution, you need to get rid of that excess moisture before blending. Drain and pat dry!

Need a spicier dip? Add 1/4-1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper. This dip tastes amazing as is with just the smoked paprika, but adding cayenne will bring the heat!

Trying to make it lower calorie? Please don’t swap the olive oil for water. I’ve tested it, but it is not a quality substitution. This red pepper feta dip is full of nutrient-dense, delicious ingredients – enjoy it as is!
