Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Only 3 ingredients – Watermelon, lime juice, and your sweetener of choice. No cooking, no fuss — just blend, freeze, and spin.
- Tastes like summer in a bowl – Cool, sweet, and insanely refreshing on a hot day.
- Kid-approved – Naturally sweet and fun to eat — they’ll never know it’s just fruit!
- No added sugar – I like to make mine with a non-nutritive sweetener like allulose to keep it added sugar free.
- Naturally hydrating – Watermelon is over 90% water, which means this sorbet actually pulls double duty as a refreshing treat and a hydrating one. The Ninja Creami does all the work – Prep it the night before, press a button, and dessert is done.
- Completely customizable – Use allulose, monk fruit, honey, maple syrup, or whatever works for your family.
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions:
For a full ingredient list with quantities, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Watermelon – watermelon condenses quite a bit when you blend it, so you’ll need a full 3 cups.
- Lime Juice – a tiny splash of lime just enhances and brightens the flavor.
- Sweetener – you can use whatever sweetener you prefer; I usually use an allulose/ monk fruit blend.
How to Make Watermelon Sorbet
For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Blend all ingredients until smooth.
- Pour into a ninja creami pint, cover, and freeze at least 12 hours.
- Place the frozen pint in the Ninja Creami machine and spin on the “lite ice cream” or “sorbet” setting. Continue with 1-2 respins, until the sorbet is creamy and smooth.
Watermelon Sorbet Variations
- Gluten free – This recipe is naturally gluten free as written — no modifications needed!
- Dairy free – Also naturally dairy free! This is a great dessert option for anyone avoiding dairy.
- Vegan – Use a plant-based sweetener like maple syrup or agave (no honey!) and this recipe is completely vegan-friendly.
- No sweetener – If your watermelon is super ripe and sweet, you can skip the sweetener altogether and let the fruit shine on its own.
- Spicy watermelon – Add a pinch of chili powder or tajin to the base before freezing for a fun sweet-heat twist.
- Watermelon mint – Blend in a few fresh mint leaves before freezing for a cool, refreshing flavor combo.
- Watermelon lemonade sorbet – Swap the lime juice for lemon juice and add a little extra sweetener for a lemonade-inspired spin.
- Watermelon strawberry – Blend in a handful of fresh strawberries for an extra fruity, berry-forward version.
- Coconut watermelon – Add a splash of coconut water or coconut milk to the base for a subtle tropical twist.
Toppings and Mix-Ins
One of the most fun parts of using a Ninja Creami are the mix-ins, and toppings of course! Here are some fun topping and mix-in ideas for watermelon sorbet:
- Toasted coconut
- Toasted sesame seeds
- Banana slices
- Fresh berries
- Crumbled freeze-dried berries
- Granola
- Mini chocolate chips
Ninja Creami Tips
- Freeze for at least 8 hours – The official Ninja Kitchen recommendation is 24 hours, but you can get away with a minimum of 8 hours. Overnight is the sweet spot for most people.
- Let it sit before spinning – Set your pint on the counter for about 10 minutes before running it. This helps everything blend more smoothly and prevents icy pieces from clinging to the sides.
- Run the right setting – For this recipe, use the Lite Ice Cream or Sorbet function on your Ninja Creami for the best texture.
- Powdery after the first spin? That’s normal – all you need to do is run a Re-Spin or two.
- Don’t overfill the pint – Fill only to the max fill line so the blade can do its job properly.
- Use fresh, ripe watermelon – The Ninja Creami is magic, but it works with what you give it. Ripe, sweet watermelon = better sorbet.
Can You Save Ninja Creami Leftovers?
You can save leftover/ already blended Ninja Creami creations, including this watermelon sorbet! The trick is to smooth the sorbet down to a flat surface again, then refreeze. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, you will have to Spin it/ respin it again, but it’ll end up just as delicious as the first time!
