Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe:
My chocolate blackberry smoothie will leave you craving more and more, and for good reason!
- So delicious – chocolate and blackberry pair so well together!
- Ultra creamy – adding Greek yogurt adds extra creaminess, and extra protein, too!
- Protein-packed – speaking of protein, between the milk, protein powder, and Greek yogurt, this smoothie has a whopping 42 grams of protein.
- Full of fiber – fiber has fantastic benefits, between helping blood sugar regulation, weight maintenance, gut health, and more — and this smoothie has 16 grams!
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions:
For a full ingredient list with quantities, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Blackberries – using frozen blackberries will help create a thicker, creamier texture.
- Vanilla Greek Yogurt – not only does this add a little extra sweetness and creaminess, but extra protein, too. I typically choose a Greek yogurt that has no added sugar.
- Milk – you can use whichever milk you prefer to drink. I often make it with an ultra-filtered milk (like Fairlife’s fat-free milk) as it gives a little more protein boost.
- Protein Power – chocolate protein powder helps add a chocolatey flavor. I love Clean Simple Eats’ Chocolate Brownie Batter Protein Powder!
- Cocoa Powder – a tablespoon deepens the chocolate flavor, but also adds a little extra fiber and iron, too.
How to Make a Chocolate Blackberry Smoothie
For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Simply add all the ingredients to a blender, then blend on high for a minute or so, or until smoothie is pureed smooth.
Tips and Variations
- Always blend a little extra longer than you think you need to – I used to work at a smoothie shop and this was a trick I picked up!
- Gluten-Free – so long as you use a gluten-free protein powder, this smoothie is naturally gluten-free!
- Dairy-Free – use your favorite plant-based milk alternative and either skip the Greek yogurt or substitute it for silken, soft tofu and a splash of vanilla.
- No Added Sugar – the only potential sources of added sugar are in the yogurt and the protein powder, so if you’re looking to minimize your added sugar intake, I suggest using options that contain no added sugar and are alternatively sweetened, such as with stevia or monk fruit.
