Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • High protein – each bowl delivers 38 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber, so it actually keeps you full.
  • Ready in 30 minutes — or way less – grab pre-made or frozen meatballs to skip a step, or bake a batch of turkey meatballs while everything else comes together.
  • One bowl, no extra sides – rice, chickpeas, veggies, and protein are all built in, so dinner is done without a side dish to think about.
  • Meal-prep friendly – portions store well for grab-and-go lunches during the week.
  • Big Greek flavor, low effort – tzatziki, feta, and oregano do the heavy lifting, so it tastes fresh and put-together without any fuss.

ingredients to make Greek meatball bowls

Turkey Meatballs

  • Ground turkey – lean ground turkey keeps things light, but ground chicken or lean ground beef both work well here too.
  • Breadcrumbs – whole wheat breadcrumbs add texture; panko or gluten-free breadcrumbs are easy swaps.
  • Egg – helps bind the meatballs together.
  • Seasonings – kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and smoked paprika give the meatballs their Greek-inspired flavor.
  • Pre-made meatballs – short on time? Frozen or store-bought turkey meatballs work great too (or previously made/ meal prepped baked turkey meatballs!), just heat according to the package instructions.

Quick Greek Salad

  • English cucumber – a regular cucumber works too, just scoop out the seeds first.
  • Grape tomatoes – cherry tomatoes are an easy substitute.
  • Red onion – adds a little bite; swap in shallot for something milder.
  • Extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar – form the simple dressing base.
  • Oregano – ties the salad flavor back to the meatballs.

Bowl Ingredients

  • Rice – white or brown rice both work, or swap in quinoa or cauliflower rice for a lower-carb option.
  • Garbanzo beans – add plant-based protein and fiber; white beans are a good substitute.
  • Tzatziki – store-bought or homemade both work well here. If going homemade, try my easy, healthy tzatziki recipe!
  • Feta cheese and parsley – optional garnishes for extra flavor and color.

How to Make a Greek Meatball Bowl

For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Cook the meatballs – if making your own, mix ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, and seasonings, roll into 1 to 1½ inch balls, and bake at 375°F for 14-16 minutes until cooked through. Using frozen or pre-made meatballs? Heat according to the package instructions.
  2. Make the quick Greek salad – toss chopped cucumber, halved grape tomatoes, and red onion with olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper while the meatballs cook.
  3. Warm the rice and chickpeas – heat cooked rice and drained garbanzo beans together, either on the stovetop or in the microwave.
  4. Assemble the bowls – divide rice and chickpeas between bowls, then top with meatballs and the Greek salad.
  5. Finish it off – add a generous spoonful of tzatziki, then finish with feta and parsley if using.

Tips and Variations

  • Air fryer meatballs – cook at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, for an even quicker turkey meatball option.
  • Make it lower carb – swap the rice for cauliflower rice or extra salad greens.
  • Add heat – a pinch of red pepper flakes in the meatballs or a drizzle of hot honey over the bowl adds a little kick.
  • Double the meatballs – turkey meatballs freeze well, so cook a double batch and keep extras on hand for busy weeknights.
  • Switch up the grain – quinoa or orzo both work in place of rice if you want to change things up.
  • Make it a wrap – stuff all the components into a pita or flatbread instead of serving as a bowl.

Meal Prep & Storage

  • Store components separately – keep the meatballs, rice, and chickpeas together in one container, and store the Greek salad and tzatziki separately. This keeps the salad crisp and the tzatziki from getting watered down or warm when you reheat.
  • Fridge – store in airtight containers for 3-4 days, per general USDA food safety recommendations.
  • Freezer – the cooked meatballs freeze well on their own for up to 1 month; the rice and chickpeas also freeze fine, but the salad and tzatziki should be made fresh.
  • To reheat – warm the meatballs, rice, and chickpeas together, then top with the cold salad and tzatziki once everything is warmed through.

FAQs

Can I use pre-made or frozen meatballs in this recipe?

Yes! Frozen or store-bought turkey meatballs work great here if you’re short on time — just heat according to the package instructions and skip straight to assembling the bowls. One of my favorite prep once, think less hacks is to make a double or triple batch of my baked turkey meatballs, then freeze the extra to use in a future quick and easy dinner!

What can I substitute for tzatziki?

Plain Greek yogurt with a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt makes a quick stand-in if you don’t have tzatziki on hand. Check my easy, healthy tzatziki recipe to see if you have the ingredients, though – it’s pretty quick to whip up!

Is this recipe gluten-free?

It can be! Use gluten-free breadcrumbs in the meatballs and double check your tzatziki brand, since some contain gluten-based thickeners.

How long do leftovers last?

Stored properly in the fridge, the components will keep for 3-4 days. Keep the salad and tzatziki separate from the warm components for the best texture.

Can I meal prep this ahead of time?

Yes, this recipe is great for meal prep. Store the meatballs, rice, and chickpeas together, and keep the salad and tzatziki in separate containers to add fresh when you’re ready to eat.
