- Quick: making bone broth rice is just as quick and simple as making traditional rice!
- 2 Main Ingredients: all you really need is rice and broth!
- Versatile: works with any type of rice and any time of broth!
- Protein: cooking rice in bone broth instead of water is a super simple swap that lets the finished rice end up with 8 grams of protein per serving.

How to Make Bone Broth Rice
For complete instructions, please check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Ultimately, you make bone broth rice just like any rice, you just swap in bone broth instead of water! You can make it on the stove top, in a rice cooker, in the Instant Pot, or however you prefer to make rice.
Tips and Variations
- Follow the rice to liquid ratios for your rice. The beauty of bone broth rice is that you can make it with any type of rice! Just be sure to follow the instructions for your specific type of rice, because the liquid to rice ratios can vary based on type (i.e. brown rice needs more liquid than jasmine rice).
- Also follow cooking time recommendations on your rice packaging. You can even use bone broth to make instant rice, but it’s going to change up the cooking time required.
- Change the broth type – I often use chicken bone broth, but you can also use beef bone broth, or any other type you prefer, or that lends well with your final dish.
- Vegetarian – unfortunately there is no such thing as a vegetarian bone broth, but you can absolutely use any type of vegetable broth, too! You just won’t get the added protein boost from the bone broth.
- Adjust salt – please also note that the saltiness of broth can vary greatly, so season your rice according to the broth you used and your tastes/ needs.
How to Meal Prep Rice
You can meal prep rice very easily! Once cooked, transfer it to an airtight container, or even spread out on a sheet pan, and place it in the fridge to cool immediately. Once cooled, you can keep it in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or transfer to a freezer-safe airtight bag or container and freeze for up to 3 months.
