What is the lifeline of mom’s everywhere? The juice that gets us up and running? The jolt that keeps us going? Duh – COFFEE.
Personally, I’ve grown to really love and appreciate coffee, but coffee doesn’t usually appreciate me back. Which, as a mom of a four month old (and the four month sleep regression is REAL and like a MONTH LONG and counting), is very sad. However, I’ve found one type of coffee that I can actually tolerate and that’s cold brew coffee.
Cold brew coffee is brewed in a way that there is less acidity. In fact, the Kohana Organic Original Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate that I was sent as part of this recipe contest is 67% less acidic than regular coffee. That makes such a huge difference that coffee becomes something that I can actually enjoy!
And hey – if I’m going to enjoy coffee, let’s go all out, right? I love a good frappe date with my mom and sister, but they are pretty rare (see above tummy troubles). So, now I can make frappes for us!
And bonus points, mamas? There is NO ADDED SUGAR in this vegan mocha frappe recipe. Just a natural sweetness from Medjool dates. You can certainly add a little agave or maple syrup if you’re looking for a little more concentrated sweetness, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how effective the dates are at sweetening. Pro tip: if you don’t have a very high power blender, then soak the dates in water or in the coconut milk from the recipe overnight. This helps soften them and they’ll blend right up!
The Kohana Organic Original Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate is vegan, and I used canned light coconut milk to give this vegan mocha frappe some extra, dairy-free creaminess that doesn’t break the caloric bank. Plus, for anyone else like me that always craves something chocolate in the afternoon, there’s a little cocoa powder for a subtle mocha flair.

Vegan Mocha Frappe (No Sugar Added)Print
- 1/4 cup Kohana Organic Original Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate
- 1/2 cup canned light coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 2-3 Medjool dates
- 2 cups ice
- Blend cold brew, coconut milk, cocoa powder, and dates until smoothly combined. Add ice and blend about a minute, or until ice is all pulverized and a smooth, creamy texture results. Serve immediately.
