Healthy food should be easy, affordable, and delicious. And it is! I’d like to introduce a new Friday series you’ll be seeing on Nutrition to Fit every Friday for all of 2017 – Frugal Food Favorites!
Here’s the deal – I’m tired of the myth that healthy food is expensive. I’m tired of hearing that it’s more expensive to eat in than eat out. I’m so, so sad that this myth is so widespread that I have had many clients come to me genuinely thinking they cannot afford to feed their families healthy foods! This is a huge problem!
I feel like it started around the superfood era. You know, when you first started hearing about all of these cool superfoods that were just so healthy and awesome and nutrient-packed it made them “superior” to other foods. Well, I feel like somewhere along the way this superfood term started correlating a lot with pricier food items. So, things like acai bowls, goji berries, maca powder, $9 green juices, organic everything, kombucha, avocado oil, collagen, etc. And don’t get me wrong – there’s nothing wrong with any of these things, but we need to not lose focus on all of the awesome superfoods that are super affordable, too!
I’m a big believer in frugality, whether it be out of want or necessity. I’m so passionate about making nutritious, delicious foods accessible to EVERYBODY! I want nutrition to fit your family and your life! Including your budget! So join me this year, as every Friday we explore a new frugal food and the health benefits that food offers and recipes for how to frugally include it in your life.
