Chocolate Covered Strawberry Smoothie

Enjoy the sweet pairing of strawberries blended with cocoa powder, milk, and banana for a healthy chocolate covered strawberry-inspired smoothie!

 

This smoothie is one that can take you and your family from the fresh, healthful foods and recipes that seem so abundant at the start of the New Year, all the way to Valentine’s Day, when you may be wanting to splurge for a little more decadence. But this is definitely not a splurge at all! No added sugars, and just a few ingredients of fruit, milk, and cocoa powder.

Strawberries not your thing? You can totally substitute frozen cherries for an equally delicious smoothie. Of course you can always substitute milk with almond, soy, or other “milks”, too (just remember almond milk is not nutritionally equivalent to cow’s milk – it’s much lower in protein, FYI!). One thing you absolutely can’t leave out? The cocoa powder! I’m a sucker for a subtle chocolate flavor in my smoothies. Plus, what kid (or husband, or heck – you!) wouldn’t want to drink any type of “chocolate” smoothie?! Totally kid-approved and family friendly!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 medium banana
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Place all the ingredients in your blender, and blend away!
  2. Note: you can always add ice for a thicker smoothie or add more milk for a thinner smoothie.
